Goodbye 2007
January 25, 2008
“In 2008…” is the phrase of the month. I have plans to make some serious changes, and so far so good. These first few weeks have not been the most encouraging, yet there’s this peace about ‘08 that’s different than 2007. So here are some of my goals you can nitpick at come June:
1) Spend more time on devotions – I am striving to be like the Biblical Daniel after listening to a sermon with the phrase, “Daniel would rather die, than miss his devotions.” Reflections from the story of Daniel and the lion’s den.
2) Finish reading my Bible – I’m actually on Day 68 of this one. Got a head start some time around November and have managed to survive the first five books and all their genealogies.
3) Exercise. So this is always a goal of mine, but this year I’ve actually invested in this area of physical wellbeing. Last semester I spent quite a bit of time in pain, and I can’t afford that in 2008.
4) Cook more. I don’t know why I only cook when having guests over, but for the past few weeks cutting up all my veggies and preparing a meal for the week has made life so much easier. It cuts back on the expenses and is way healthier.
5) Be a better friend. I’ve become more sensitive to the real issues my friends face, and in 2008 I really want to have “real life” experiences with not just best friends, but potential friends as well.
So that’s what 2008 looks like. There’s several other personal things I’ll be working on, but I thought since I never post anything here that I’d let the few of you out there know where I’m coming from and where I pray God takes me this year.
Looking back on 2007, there was so much change and confusion. I feel like I matured from a young woman to a young old woman by the end of it. The blessings are countless, but often discarded by all the drama. I hope to focus more on the growth than the stunting-agents this year – pray for me.
As I said, so far so good. And though this comes a little late, I truly can say, “Goodbye ‘07 and hello 2008.”
